Century Graphic (149/365)

This is a 1950’s Century Graphic 6x9 camera. It’s my second press camera the first one from Graphic would be the full sized Speed Graphic seen in BOoOOOKKkkkkEEEHhhhhh to the right of the photo. This particular one uses the 101mm F4.5 Ektar lens, similar to my 4x5 (uses a 127mm).

This was bought today at a camera show, I was originally looking for a “23” Graphic back to use it on my Mamiya press Universal and there were many dealers who were selling that but they were all asking like 80-120 dollars depending on condition! This came with one of those AND a ground glass and the camera for 175. So what I’m saying is that for about 55 more dollars I have a very nice cap for my “23” Graphic back.

These are AMAZING camera’s by the way, if you ever have the chance to own one of these DO IT. They are the most fantastic value for money, there is no other 6x9 camera that will be as fun to use, and have as much freedom or as much modularity for so little money. The thing is also TINY to boot, it’s smaller than the Fuji GW690 and lighter as well and it folds up into a tiny tiny box.

Ok so I must admit. Of all the camera brands out there. I’ve owned most of them. Uptil now I have not owned an olympus SLR (I’ve had a EP-1 very briefly but that was it, also it’s not an SLR). So this is baby’s first Olympus SLR. Came with batteries that worked (although 1/2 exploded), a 50mm F1.8. And the manual override mode knob thing. I just got it in a thrift shop, it was sitting there! For 10 bucks! Today was a good day.

Anyway I did end up cleaning it up to remove the grime and it looks nicer now, I just wanted to get a pre-clean photo.

Army (98/365) on Flickr.

Army (98/365)

Ok so in the house ALL year there’s been little aphids around the house every so often. I generally never minded them because they’re so harmless but today I was just walking around the plants at home and noticed that on the largest one there were little spots all over it. At first I assumed it was just dirt because the light was dim. Anyway I wanted to do more macro work and I liked the texture of the leaves on the plants so I busted my tripod out and went nuts on it. Right on the first shot I noticed the little dirt spots had legs. So at that moment the photo changed from leaf macro to bug invasion macro. So it looks like on each leaf they’re sits armies of these and each leaf is full of them. What I’m saying is if you ever visit watch for the 200,000 bug army in the living room.

Another black and white, inspired by my laser printer being a jerk. The toner cartridge kept on getting gunked up and the residue was black and powdery. I put my fingers on it then onto the sink and noticed a perfect finger print. This photo has a film noire tone to it.

Monings (10/365)

I don’t like em. Well no mornings I’m fine with. It’s conciousness that I don’t like. The fun thing is that I planned to wake up a bit earlier to do this Move to a room where the sun actually shines in (My room is not facing sunrise). But it turns out being unconscious is pretty awesome. Anyway that’s an approximation of what I look like in the morning.

Iron Ring (6/365)

Some of you will know what’s on my pinky. Some won’t. It’s an Engineering Iron ring. Why do I have one? Because I’m a graduate of an engineering program in Canada. I almost forgot that’s what I graduated from. So I decided to do this photo. To remind me that I have a degree in engineering. (I take photos now instead of practising engineering).

Anyways it’s a bit of a cop out photo but I did get to play with my lights a lot. Here’s the strobist data.

1x 430EX directly above the hand aimed down(@ 1/32th power) 1x 430EX to the right of the camera aimed at the hand and covered by a snoot (@ 1/8 power) 1x 580EX directly behind me (to give that bit of head bokeh) and covered by a snoot (@1/8th power)
