Uptil now I have not owned an olympus SLR (I’ve had a EP-1 very briefly but that was it, also it’s not an SLR). So this is baby’s first Olympus SLR. Came with batteries that worked (although 1/2 exploded), a 50mm F1.8. And the manual override mode knob thing. I just got it in a thrift shop, it was sitting there! For 10 bucks! Today was a good day. Anyway I did end up cleaning it up to remove the grime and it looks nicer now, I just wanted to get a pre-clean photo. Strobist: Speedlight 580ex with 32x32” softbox directly behind (@1/8th power) with 430ex on a DIY ring flash (@1/4 power) to the left and above the frame. Originally I was going to use my 100mm macro to do a high speed photo of me pouring TONS of sugar into my coffee. Although to be fair the contraption of a cup is already pretty sweet. The point of the story is that I got very distracted when I took a test shot on my 50mm lens and noticed that the flash behind it was lighting up steam! Strobist: 430EX (@1/2 power) bounded off the wall behind the camera as a fill 430EX (@1/2 power) behind the lens cup to light the steam. Camera : Canon 5D mark II, 50mm F1.2L (@F5.6)

So, I really like coffee. Like a lot. Originally I was going to use my 100mm macro to do a high speed photo of me pouring TONS of sugar into my coffee. Although to be fair the contraption of a cup is already pretty sweet.

The point of the story is that I got very distracted when I took a test shot on my 50mm lens and noticed that the flash behind it was lighting up steam!

Well that’s exactly what happened here. Except not. This was a super fun photo to do. And you can do it too! Here’s what you need: A 24-105mm F4L IS lens cup (with unscrewable mount, you’ll need to cut this off) A broken 35-80mm lens (You’lll need to cut the EF mount off this) A broken Rebel K2000  A dremel tool A glue gun A sense of humor. So long story short. I cut the mount off an actual EF lens, then I mounted that on the lens cup, then I mounted the new EF lens cup on a REAL K2000. The poured myself a hot steaming cup of morning energy. Strobist data: Canon 430EX (@1/4 power on HSS) With Softbox and CTO gel just to the left of the frame (This is key, you need to light the cup in a way that it doesn’t reveal that it’s not a lens, lighting it from the right reveals the cheap plastic moulding marks on my cup) Camera: 5D mark II With 50mm F1.2

This was a super fun photo to do. And you can do it too! Here’s what you need:

A 24-105mm F4L IS lens cup (with unscrewable mount, you’ll need to cut this off)

A broken 35-80mm lens (You’lll need to cut the EF mount off this)

A broken Rebel K2000 

A dremel tool

A glue gun

A sense of humor.

So long story short. I cut the mount off an actual EF lens, then I mounted that on the lens cup, then I mounted the new EF lens cup on a REAL K2000. The poured myself a hot steaming cup of morning energy.
